A prominent building at the corner of Oak and Rush Streets in Chicago’s Gold Coast underwent a significant redesign. The departure of flagship retail tenant Barney’s created an opportunity to reconfigure the space to invite multiple retail and office uses. DMA team members were involved with the building’s initial build-out for Barney’s and supported this major reconfiguration, from initial demolition through project completion. The project included renovations to the existing core and shell and the creation of varied retail spaces utilizing the first and second floors, as well as a 12,000-square-foot space on the sixth floor identified for restaurant use.

DMA continued work on behalf of ownership to deliver retail space to new tenants, collaborating with tenant design teams and consultants. Cartier, a luxury jewelry brand, opened in a two-story space that extended the building’s frontage and created a custom façade with a curved corner entrance. In an adjacent, two-level space, Balenciaga launched its first stand-alone Chicago store. The brand offers ready-to-wear clothing and accessories in this distinctive environment, featuring industrial lighting systems and brushed concrete floors.
