Developers of Southplace City Center envisioned an ambitious transformation for Southland Mall, an existing retail property with more than 808,000 square feet of space. Plans took shape for a $1 billion, phased redevelopment effort that would create a mixed-use, transit-oriented community in a seven-year timeframe. The effort would require the collaboration of numerous stakeholders and complex coordination among project team members. Ownership brought DMA on board to assist in the mall’s reinvention and the transformation of adjacent property.
Plans for Southplace City Center include developing 4,395 new residential units at varied price points, updating the existing retail building, introducing new retail and restaurant options, and creating community green space, medical office space and a 150-key hotel. The 80-acre project adds needed housing options to the Miami-Dade County area and benefits from access to an adjacent new mass transit route.
