The Tullman family hired DMA to guide and manage the development of a world-class glass art studio and event space in Chicago’s West Loop. DMA led the transformation and reuse of an existing building to a unique multi-purpose venue that spans 15,000 square feet. We completed the project within a tight budget and timeframe—roughly $3 million and six months. The opening date was designed to coincide with the citywide “Chicago Ideas Week.”
Ignite Glass Studios debuted as planned with a glassblowing event that welcomed the community. The space includes a state-of-the-art glass studio, an integrated 5,700-square-foot event area, a rooftop deck, and a festive garden. Glassblowing artists work in residence and teach classes to students of all levels. The event space is regularly booked for meetings and celebrations and has hosted the International Glass Arts Association.
The unique facility involved retrofitting an aging industrial structure and overseeing new construction to expand the space. Ignite’s presence has contributed to the renewal of this area of Chicago’s West Loop, with a blend of industrial, professional, and cultural uses.
