A growing non-profit planned a new facility to further its mission of empowering and connecting Chicagoans through the healing practices of glassblowing and ceramic arts. Firebird Community Arts chose DMA to guide the development of its new building, moving from a rented building to a purpose-built space on vacant land in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.
DMA served as a direct advisor to the Firebird team and board of directors, managed a detailed RFP process to select a general contractor, oversaw consultant and contractor teams, and coordinated with lenders, the City of Chicago and the New Markets Tax Credit program to optimize results and funding resources.
Firebird Community Arts reaches people affected by structural and individual trauma, including violently injured youth, formerly incarcerated individuals, and Chicago Public School students on the South and West sides. The new building enables the organization to provide affordable, high-quality instruction to communities of up to 100 youth artists. The building design accommodates varied programs, enhances its location and offers outdoor greenspace for gathering and reflection.
