An international team contributed to the innovative design and proposal for Chicago SkyLine, an aerial tram system envisioned as a singular tourist attraction and transportation asset. The idea grew from a visioning competition at Navy Pier’s centennial. DMA served as the project manager for the team developing the design and proposal, coordinating with the local team, international experts, the Chicago Department of Transportation and other constituents.
DMA assisted some of the world’s best architects, engineers and cable transit developers to resolve complex design challenges and produce optimal solutions. The proposed system laced high vertical supports and cables along the Riverwalk, connecting the Loop with Navy Pier and traversing one of the most iconic skylines in North America. Sleek aerial “pods” would move up to 2,000 passengers per hour and offer stunning perspectives on many architecturally significant buildings. In a city known for big plans and innovative attractions, the Chicago SkyLine design elevates future possibilities for strengthening tourism and green transportation.
