March 16, 2012
The green roofs at Chicago's 900 North Michigan Avenue earned a 2011 President's Award in the Design, Constructed - Commercial category from the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ILASLA). Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects designed these green spaces: one for luxury residences, one for office tenants, and one topping the parking garage. DMA managed the office and residential green roof projects on behalf of building ownership as part of larger redevelopment work. Rivers Casino is the First LEED Gold Certified Casino in the World
March 15, 2012
Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, the newest casino in the Chicagoland area, has been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Rivers Casino is the first casino in the world to achieve the LEED Gold certification.
"We are proud to be recognized as a leader in sustainable development and we hope to set an example for the rest of the gaming and entertainment industries," said Greg Carlin, CEO of Rivers Casino. "It's important to all of our team members that we are a good corporate citizen."
"Achieving LEED Gold was challenging and expensive, but in the long run, the effort will improve the environment and reduce our operating costs," said Neil Bluhm, Chairman, Midwest Gaming and Entertainment, LLC.
Rivers Casino opened in July 2011 and has become the premier entertainment and gaming destination in the Chicagoland area. Rivers Casino was designed with a sustainability plan to achieve LEED certification for energy, lighting, water and material use, as well as incorporating a variety of other sustainable elements. USGBC established LEED to encourage developers to design and construct buildings that protect and save precious resources, while also making good economic sense.
"This honor really belongs to our entire development team including Klai Juba Architects, Cleo Design, DMAC Architecture, Development Management Associates, our general contractor, Pepper Construction and the city of Des Plaines" said Carlin.
"The green building movement offers an unprecedented opportunity to respond to the most important challenges of our time, including global climate change, dependence on non-sustainable and expensive sources of energy and threats to human health," said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair, USGBC. "The work of innovative building projects such as Rivers Casino is a fundamental driving force in the green building movement."

DMA Plays Lead Role in Equipping LEED Building with Solar Power
Los Angeles, CA, January 14, 2009
One of the country's greenest retrofitted buildings can now generate up to 30 percent of its daily power from its parking garage - specifically, from 1,408 solar panels installed on the garage's top level. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and officials from Constellation Place, LLC, an affiliate of JMB Realty Corp., unveiled the new photovoltaic system on MGM Tower on January 14, 2009. On behalf of JMB Realty, Chicago-based Development Management Associates, LLC (DMA) managed the project from concept to completion, beginning with the selection of SPG Solar Inc., specialists in solar power installation.
MGM Tower is a 35-story office building with more than 775,000 square feet of Class-A office space in Century City Los Angeles. The new photovoltaic system topping its parking garage is the third largest in Los Angeles to date. The completed system at MGM Tower will produce 570,095 kWh annually, cutting the building's purchase of electrical power by approximately 12 percent. Over it's service life, the system will prevent an estimated 277 metric tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to planting 92 acres of trees.
Mike Levin, DMA principal, worked with JMB Realty on the original development of MGM Tower in 2003. The building earned LEED® Silver certification in the existing building category from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2008, a distinction recognizing previous, substantial improvements in energy efficiency.
DMA oversaw completion of this photovoltaic project within a tight timeframe to ensure owner eligibility for solar investment tax credits. As part of the economic stabilization package, the U.S. Congress recently extended commercial and residential solar investment tax credits for eight years — an opportunity for other building owners to explore the potential of solar power and save both energy and investment costs.
